Judith Brown, Big River I, acrylic on canvas, gallery wrap, 12 inches by 12 inches.
Judith was born in Illinois and began her training at the famous Art Institute of Chicago at the age of 5. She went every week for art classes and continued studying throughout her childhood. Her parents encouraged her, both being musicians.
As a young woman she moved to the Southwest where she attended Arizona State University, and earned her BFA.
Judith discovered the Mendocino coast in the early ‘70s and settled in Albion. She and a friend built her modest, rural house, with a pond and an art studio, where she lived and worked the rest of her life.
She worked as a graphic artist and continued to investigate many painting and print mediums, creating large bodies of work in watercolor, oil, pastel, linoleum block print and pencil.
Highlight Gallery in Mendocino has exhibited her artwork from the late 1990’s to the present day. She was part of the visual landscape in Mendocino for decades.
