Summer White, hand carved salad servers with ginko leaf design of various woods. Measures 10.5 inches long and 3.5 inches wide at leaf. Food safe, functional and gorgeous!
Summer's story: I became a math major for my Dad. I became a woodworker for me. After years of building cabinets and fine furniture I wanted to do something more artistic. On a sailing trip to Alaska I was in need of a wooden spoon. I decided to carve one similar to one my grandmother had. It was rough and simple but I enjoyed carving it so much that I just kept carving spoons. On that Alaska trip the bird and sea life inspired many of my carvings today. A handle with a comfortable grip shaped as a bird or a seal is fun to carve.
Much of the wood I use comes from the Northwest coast and Alaska. Yellow Cedar, Redwood, and Juniper are a few of my favorites. I also like to use some hard and exotic woods such as Ebony, Red Heart, Pink Ivory, and Black Walnut.
All of my spoons are made to be used. After sanding silky smooth a food grade salad bowl finish is applied leaving a shiny durable hard finish. My hope is that my spoons will be in use long after I have carved them.
